Edith Cavell's Business Card, and a Commemorative Medal
This photograph was kindly sent by Nikolaas Ottevaere in March 2006. It shows a business card, with a message, written in French, believed to be Edith Cavell's own handwriting. The message reads: 'Pierre Ghysels le porteur nous aide avec son vélo.' Our thanks to several French-speaking visitors, who have provided the following translation: 'Pierre Ghysels, the bearer (who has the card in his possession), helps us with his bicycle.' The reverse of the medal reads: 1915 - REMEMBER! Our thanks to Nikolaas for sharing this photo.
